How to Check for a Leak on a Dishwasher
- 1). Remove the access panel from the bottom of the dishwasher. You'll find it just under the dishwasher door. Different dishwashers have different panels, but most have two screws at the bottom. Unscrew these and pop the panel out by pulling it forward.
- 2). Turn the dishwasher on and let it run through a short rinse cycle. Do not use soap. Stay in the room while the dishwasher is on so you can detect an excessive leak and turn the machine off.
- 3). Look under the dishwasher, under the sink where the hoses connect and along the edges of the doors for any water. Do this both while the machine is running and again when it's off. These are the usual places where dishwashers leak. Use a towel or your fingers to detect water if you aren't sure you can see it. Let it sit after it is off to see if any water appears.
- 4). Replace the washer on the dishwasher hose under the sink if you have a leak under the sink. Check the door gasket if you have a leak coming from the door. If you don't see any obvious signs of wear or damage, you'll need to call a repairman to fix the leak -- it's probably coming from the soap dispenser. If you see water under the dishwasher, it is probably leaking from the back. Check the connections and see if a washer needs replacing.
