When Should You Consider Vein Surgery, and What Can You Do to Prevent It?

103 8
Varicose veins typically don't pose a risk to a person's health, but the side effects like swelling, aching legs, unsightly lines, discoloration, and poor circulation can all play into the decision to have vein surgery to rectify this issue.
It helps to understand that parts of the venous system can become varicose when the elasticity of the vessels' walls decreases, allowing the walls to become permeable, which in turn allows fluid to leak out into the surrounding tissue.
This is where discoloration and swelling occur.
Once there is damage, health and elasticity do not return.
If having an operation is an option for you, two types are available: removal of the vein and sclerotherapy, a procedure in which a solution is injected into the vessel, causing it to collapse and shrink.
However, for some, an operation is not an option.
Here are a few things you can do to help alleviate pain and prevent more damage in the future.
Natural Therapies Use natural therapies to prevent more varicose veins.
Herbs such as horse chestnut, butcher's broom, and witch hazel can be used as treatment.
The main goal of natural therapies is to reduce the permeability of the vein's walls.
This will decrease pain and swelling and strengthen the walls for better blood flow.
These herbs usually come in either tablet or tincture form and are available from most natural product or health food stores.
Massages Massages aid in swelling and pain relief.
Either you or a massage therapist can massage the legs in a firm, upward motion while using cream or salve with herbs and essential oils.
This will aid with circulation and pain at once.
Essential oils that are helpful for this type of treatment include cypress and geranium oil.
Dietary Changes Make changes to your diet.
Good foods for overall health of your circulatory system include buckwheat, berries, and pineapple.
All of these foods contain active compounds that can change the viscosity of the blood and strengthen the walls of the vessels in your circulatory system.
Pineapple, for instance, contains bromelain, which thins the blood, allowing it to flow more easily and put less pressure on the circulatory system.
Using a more natural or holistic approach means that patients will not be required to take medications that might cause adverse reactions and side effects.
The irony is that some medications can actually cause swelling in the extremities, which is the symptom that needs alleviation when someone has varicose veins! Footwear and Legwear Wearing compression hosiery and comfortable footwear can help with this condition.
Most women get varicose veins from years of wearing high heels and uncomfortable shoes.
Exercise Improving circulation and muscle tone can help prevent certain issues of the circulatory system, and exercises like walking, biking, and jogging can help relieve symptoms.
Again, varicose veins seldom cause severe health problems, but they can cause discomfort and embarrassment for some patients.
Surgery is an option for some, but there are other ways to help heal and relieve symptoms.
The choice is up to the individual, as with any surgical procedure, as there are both risks and benefits to be considered.
Perhaps it would be best to try natural remedies first and consider surgery as a final option when other approaches have been exhausted.
